Public Hearing – Proposed Michigan Skilled Trades Regulation Rules and Boiler Rule Changes
LARA has scheduled a public hearing on April 15, 2026 on proposed updates to PA 407 and Part 9a | 1–3 PM | Ottawa Building, Lansing.  Inspectors and industry professionals are encouraged to review the proposed rules and submitted comments and consider participating in the rule-making process.  Click here to read details and how to submit comments

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC), administers statewide construction code programs, including permits, plan reviews, code enforcement guidance, and training approvals.

Michigan Mechanical Inspectors

Our  purpose is the advancement of principles and practices promoting safety of life and property in connection with the installation and service of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, and automatic sprinkler and fire suppression systems, including  instruction on matters pertaining to the welfare and safety of the general public.

Mechanical Inspectors Association of Michigan ​(MIAM)

MIAM is a statewide organization whose members include Mechanical Inspectors, building officials, contractors, utilities and other interested parties.  Conferences are held each spring and fall at a convenient location, and include up to 18 hours of state-approved programs geared towards mechanical inspectors. Many subjects are covered with different speakers and points of view.

Metropolitan Mechanical Inspectors Association (MMIA)

MMIA is a regional organization in southeastern Michigan whose members include Inspectors, building officials, contractors, utilities and other interested parties located in Region 9.  Seminars are held in the Metropolitan Detroit area every other month (except July and August), which include up to 4 hours of educational information and are designed to work in conjunction with the MIAM Conferences. Many important topics are covered supplying up-to-date information designed for the professional development of Mechanical Inspectors and other interested parties.
